Trent was raised in Texas and Mississippi before moving to Arkansas to attend the U of A. After receiving BSA and MS degrees in Agricultural Economics, he became the Agricultural Marketing Director for the Arkansas Industrial Development Commission. It was in that position that he was introduced to the concept of food banks by an emissary of what was to become Feeding America. Trent is a founding board member of the Foodbank and is its longest serving member. Over his 38 years on the board he has served as President, Vice President, and currently serves as Treasurer.
Retired after a career that included jobs as a commodities broker and farm marketing consultant, soybean association executive, and the stint at AIDC, Trent spent seven years planting and managing a large garden on the Foodbank grounds until the expansion of the Volunteer Operations Center.
Trent and his wife Jennifer, former field interpreter for Arkansas State Parks, have two children: Faith, a CPA in Houston, TX and Hope, an audiologist in Broomfield, CO with her husband, Wes. Trent and Jennifer now enjoy long trips in their Airstream and volunteering at Trinity United Methodist Church. “Being a small part of the growth of the Foodbank has been the most rewarding part of my career in agriculture. Having a dedicated staff and a hard working, involved board has allowed the Foodbank to make a significant contribution to ending hunger in Arkansas.”
